We sure have come a far way with technology, but are we getting carried away with our use of free will? (That’s code for: I’m getting a little scared.)
Artificial Intelligence seems to be creeping into most parts of life these days, even our beloved social media pages.
The latest craze taking over my TikTok ‘For You Page’ is AI-generated vlogs.
I kid you not, I am literally watching hyper-realistic videos of animals talking to a camera… for HOURS!!!
This scarily clever use of technology has made its way to this part of the globe, with a TikTok page called ‘Auckland Vlogs’ dedicated to making AI videos based on popular quirks of Auckland life.
The main themes seem to be poking fun at Auckland Transport and the police, along with hilarious videos of influencers, traffic, supermarket prices and landlords.
The page’s most popular video, with more than 218K views, vlogging on his phone about catching people speeding in a 30k zone, when they know the "roads should clearly be 50".
The video also shows a lady running up to an officer about stolen property, but his response is that he’s busy vlogging, and she should “jog on”.
Maybe they aren’t so factually accurate, but they could honestly still fool me into believing they’re real.
Another issue Aotearoa loves to talk about is the sheer number of road cones there are.
You best believe AI hopped on that, showing a worker vlogging in front of a bunch of annoyingly placed road cones, saying: “Nah, no work today, just making sure nobody even thinks about driving efficiently”.
An even crazier concept is an Auckland Transport Christmas party where everyone dresses up as their favourite thing in the world - road cones.
Funny videos also included life of low-level, but self-important, NZ influencers, Boomer landlords shaming us for our lack of property ownership, and of course, one about horrific supermarket prices.
I mean, this AI stuff is getting so out of hand, even our very own Wahs have released a vlog of Bigfoot heading to a game.
We thought we’d have flying pigs by now - instead, we just have videos of Bigfoot saying “Up the Wahs”.
A win is a win, I guess.
Anyone else scared of what’s to come, or just me?
