The iconic DIVA exhibition at Auckland Museum is on now and getting rave reviews, so what better excuse to grab your gals, get dressed up, and plan a fabulous trip away or staycation? We asked Ash from More FM for her fave Tāmaki Makaurau discoveries since moving here from Aussie, and she's outdone herself.
"After nine months in beautiful Auckland, I feel like I’m only just scratching the surface when it comes to all the wonderful places to eat, drink, play and be inspired," she said. "But I’ve given the search a pretty good crack!"
From a lush stay in the city centre, to exploring local markets and dining at some seriously delicious spots – you and your dream team will be sorted for the whole weekend!
Accommodation
"If you’re looking for somewhere to stay, then you’ll want to look at Hotel Grand Chancellor Auckland. It’s an amazing choice if you want somewhere to enjoy a full spread buffet breakfast before heading into the heart of the city for some shopping, or get in a workout in the top-floor hotel gym with a view over the city.
"If you want understated luxury while staying central, then here is a very chic option, and you’re spoiled for choice with the best shopping, eating, and drinking spots either side of you on the Viaduct waterfront and Ponsonby shopping district - all while being a stone’s throw away from the Sky Tower.

Eating and Drinking
"Auckland has an amazing array of food options, from cheap eats to uber fancy options. Korean fusion Hazy Tiger in the CBD is somewhere in the middle, and is my family’s go-to for a seriously tasty dinner.
"If you want to step it up a level, Alma is absolutely fantastic - not only is the food fab, but they do DELISH cocktails. It’s a wonderful place to sample the insane seafood that Aotearoa has on offer.
"Oh, and if seafood is your thing, a casual lunch at the Auckland Fish Market is always fun (just be ready to fend off seagulls that may try and steal a chippy).
"Queens Rooftop and Wine Room is the perfect place to unwind after a busy day, with a drink in hand to watch the sunset over this gorgeous harbour city from high up on level 21. Book a table to avoid disappointment!

"After a vegan choice? Khu Khu is some of the best Thai food I’ve ever tasted… and non vegans would never even guess! I highly recommend!
Must-do activities
"The DIVA exhibition at the Auckland Museum absolutely blew my mind, featuring stunning outfits worn by some of the most iconic divas of our time.
"You’ll see Lady Gaga’s blue Oscars gown and Rihanna’s fishnet dress! Everyone from Dame Kiri Te Kanawa to Elton John to Beyoncé is celebrated in this incredible exhibition, and it was such a treat to get up close to some truly unforgettable outfits.

"Every Saturday you can experience the Britomart Market, as Takutai Square comes alive with hundreds of stalls selling everything from delicious crêpes to handmade skincare.
It’s the perfect spot to wander around while snacking on something sweet and delicious.
"This area is also where all the big brands have their flagship stores, in case you want to give the credit card a bit of a nudge!
"If you want to get out of the CBD, nearby Ponsonby is a great spot for a meal and a shop, with Ponsonby Road packed with cafés, bars, restaurants and boutiques (oh, and while you’re there, treat yourself to a Duck Island ice cream. Trust me).
"Whatever you decide to do, I know you’ll have a blast in this fabulous city. I hope you enjoy my recommendations!
