Anya Taylor-Joy had to be 'unflappable' while co-producing crime series

Anya Taylor-Joy had to be "unflappable" while co-producing her new crime series Lucky.

The Queen's Gambit star has reflected on her latest project, Lucky, in which she stars as the title character and serves as executive producer.

In a recent interview with ELLE UK, Taylor-Joy opened up about co-producing the seven-episode thriller, explaining that the experience allowed her to embrace "the spreadsheet side" of her personality.

"I learnt that being a leader is about being unflappable," she said. "It's not your job to freak out, it's your job to find solutions and soothe everybody else."

Taylor-Joy first heard about the project when fellow actress and producer Reese Witherspoon sent her a copy of Marissa Stapley's book of the same name and asked if she would like to get involved.

"I've always been interested in not just why something works, but how it works," she stated. "I felt like I'd been doing it for a while. It just hadn't been part of my job title."

While she is best known for her acting work, the Furiosa star launched her own production company, Lady Killer, in 2024.

Elsewhere in the interview, Outer Banks actor Drew Starkey, who plays Taylor-Joy's character's husband, praised the actress as both a co-star and producer.

"As an actor, Anya is unbelievably giving," he shared. "She has a great capacity to share herself in a way that's vulnerable and compelling."

"As a producer, she's the ultimate collaborator," he continued. "She was open to the creative team and crew in ways that gave a voice to every member working on the story, while still having the strength to stand firm in her own ideas. You simply trust her."
