Anne Hathaway suggested adding Hot Ones interview scene into new movie Verity

Anne Hathaway has revealed it was her idea to include the Hot Ones interview in her new movie Verity.

In the movie adaptation of Colleen Hoover's psychological thriller, the Oscar-winning actress plays renowned author Verity Crawford alongside Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett.

To establish Verity as a certifiable celebrity, Hathaway makes fake press appearances in the movie, giving interviews with U.S. anchor Gayle King, Call Her Daddy's Alex Cooper and on Sean Evans's hot wings show.

During an interview on the Talk of the Townsends podcast, The Odyssey star revealed two of those interviews were her idea.

"Alex Cooper and Call Her Daddy was scripted, and then I, just, in a production meeting, said, 'Is that enough to establish Verity as an iconic cultural figure?' Because in my head, if we could do something like, I don't know, get a Gayle King interview and Hot Ones, that would be kind of the triple crown trifecta," she explained.

Because she had never been on Hot Ones before, Hathaway only did "the first three wings for real" in character as Verity because she wanted to do the experience herself in the future.

"It was a big conversation about whether or not I would.... I've never done the 10-piece gauntlet," she continued. "You don't want your first kiss ever in your life to be like an on-screen kiss. You want that to be, like, a real thing where you're not playing a character at the same time as experiencing something physically."

Hathaway originally planned to do the Hot Ones challenge - where celebrities answer questions while eating increasingly hot chicken wings - as part of the Verity press tour, but she was advised against it after she became pregnant.

"But then I got pregnant, and my doctor said I couldn't do it because I might go into early labour," she added. "So I still haven't done the gauntlet yet... I'm not sure when that's gonna happen."

The Devil Wears Prada star is currently expecting her third child with husband Adam Shulman. They are already parents to sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, six.

Verity will be released in cinemas on Friday.
