Amanda Seyfried was "walking on air" following the success of her 2025 psychological thriller The Housemaid.

The Mean Girls actress, who starred alongside Sydney Sweeney and Brandon Sklenar in the movie adaptation of Freida McFadden's novel, was delighted when the film became a box office smash following its release in December 2025.

"I was walking on air," she said of its success in an interview with WWD. "You don't ever have expectations of how a movie's going to be received, ever. The school of thought I have is 'keep your expectations low,' for the most part, when it comes to this kind of stuff that you can't control."

Seyfried admitted she signed on for the project without reading a script because Paul Feig - the man behind Bridesmaids and Spy - was attached to direct, and it turned out to be a successful career move.

"It was really good for me, career-wise," she continued. "It was really good to have that kind of box office power behind me again, because it doesn't matter how much work you've done or how much good work you've done, when it comes to TV and certain studio movies, there's still this weird math behind each of people's names that you can't really outrun."

The Housemaid has given Seyfried major box office clout, considering it made $400 million (£300 million) worldwide from a $35 million (£26 million) budget.

While her character doesn't return in the next film adaptation, The Housemaid's Secret, the Jennifer's Body star intends to visit Feig, Sweeney and her new co-stars on set.

Filming is now underway on The Housemaid's Secret, which also stars Kirsten Dunst, Brittany Snow and Paul Anthony Kelly.
