Love a sale? All the things Kiwis admit they refuse to pay full price for

Kiwis love a good bargain. In fact, some of us love it so much we straight up refuse to pay full price for certain things.

A Reddit thread has created a huge conversation about the products and places Kiwis will NEVER pay full retail for, and one retailer in particular keeps popping up - any guesses where?!

“What do you never pay full price for in NZ?” The Reddit poster asked. “For me, it's haircuts.”

“I don't care about how my hair looks as long as it's short back and sides. I delay getting them as long as I can. This week, I found a Chinese grandma who cut my hair in her garage for $15. I'll defo be going back,” they added.

“Anything at Briscoes,” multiple people replied - which, let’s be honest, isn’t exactly shocking considering the place seems to have a sale every second day. Finding something at full price there should be considered bad luck.

Clothes were another big one. “Clothes 🤷‍♀️ Unless I REALLY need it,” one user wrote, sharing how they recently paid $80 for a shirt, only to see it drop to $25 two weeks later.

“Since that day I’ve decided I’m not buying clothing unless it’s on sale or clearance,” they said. “If it sells out in my size, I guess I just miss out.”

Petrol also came up a lot, which makes sense with the eye-watering prices lately.

One person said they only fill up on the weekly discount day (we all wait until Thursday, right?!), while others mentioned using the Gaspy app to hunt down the cheapest fuel nearby.

Parking was another cost people said they try to avoid paying.

“It feels like I’m being robbed paying for parking,” one commenter wrote.

Although we wouldn't recommend this one, tbh. Skipping parking payments can be a RISKY move - just ask the guy who racked up $17,000 worth of Auckland parking fines in just six months...

Someone took things even further, saying they rarely pay full price for "anything".

“Aside from a few unavoidable grocery items like bread or milk, I can’t remember the last thing I paid full price for,” they said.

“I meal plan around weekly specials, buy clothes on clearance and everything else on sale.” I can only wish to get to this level of savings.

Even cheese got a mention. “I only buy it on sale,” a Redditor wrote. “If it’s under $14 I’ll grab another block - even if I’ve still got half one at home.”

And what might be the most surprising shout - only because we've never thought of it - is "cleaning products".

One commenter said they skip most expensive sprays and just use water, vinegar, dish soap and disinfectant, buying the ingredients in bulk instead. SMART!

“Water, a bit of vinegar, dish soap and disinfectant. The main ingredients for surface and glass cleaners," they said.

"You can pretty much buy all this stuff in 2L containers for cheaper than a spray-and-wipe bottle.”

Honestly, it’s hard to ignore a good money saving hack! Do you have any worth sharing with the group?!
