If you've got plans to grab some mates and rent an Airbnb to party the night away, you're gonna have to reconsider since Airbnb is officially cracking down on parties worldwide, and the consequences are grim.
Airbnb believes that "neighbourhoods and communities in which we operate are as important as the hosts and guests who use our service," according to a press release.
The decision to crack down is to prevent any rare situations of irresponsible guests throwing "unauthorised parties."
When the pandemic took over the world back in 2020, clubs and bars were forced to close, meaning many keen party-goers took to Airbnb for hosting duties.
That prompted Airbnb to look closer at visitors hosting parties in their rented proprerties, and they temporarily banned get-togethers.
According to the Airbnb NZ party policy, "as of 20 August 2020, Airbnb announced a global ban on all parties and events at Airbnb listings, including a cap on occupancy at 16, consistent with our community policies.
"This party ban applies to all future bookings on Airbnb and will remain in effect indefinitely until further notice."
So, the fact that I can count all my mates on one hand must actually be a good thing, right?
Consider yourself warned because anyone who breaches the rules will risk their accounts being suspended or removed from the platform completely.
You definitely don't want to end up like the 6,600 Airbnb users that were suspended in 2021 for breaking the strict party policy.
