When Adele said she was taking a "big break" from music to "do other creative things," we're not surprised it's to make moves to the silver screen!
The Grammy award-winning singer is set to make her major acting debut in 'Cry To Heaven', the new film from fashion designer and filmmaker Tom Ford - his first directorial project in almost a decade.
While Adele is known and loved by fans for her great sense of wit and playful humour (who can forget her hilarious SNL appearances!), this film won't be a light-hearted rom-com. The movie is an adaptation of Anne Rice's 1982 novel of the same name, a story set in 18th-century Italy about a Venetian noble and a castrated opera singer.
In their exclusive report, Deadline describes the original story as being filled with "themes of identity, betrayal, love and the pursuit of artistic and personal freedom." And naturally, looking at the themes from Adele's back catalogue of platinum-selling albums, it feels like something the English singer can connect with.
After finishing her epic Las Vegas residency in November 2024, Adele told German TV station ZDF she was ready for a change. "I don't have any plans for new music, at all," she said. "I want a big break after this, and I think I want to do other creative things, just for a little while."
And while she famously sang the 'Skyfall' theme and had a cameo in 'Ugly Betty' back in 2009, this will be her first proper film role.
According to Deadline, Adele will be joining an insane star-studded cast, which includes Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Colin Firth, and Hunter Schafer.
The movie is reportedly in pre-production now, with filming set to start in London and Rome from mid-January. Kiwis can expect to see 'Cry To Heaven' hit cinemas in spring 2026.
