Like a salmon jumping out of a stream, a new Kiwi ice cream store has leapt onto the viral foodie scene.
Auckland's Fugitoto Ice Cream offers a New Zealand King Salmon flavour, with a splodge of wasabi on top. I've got no clue how to feel about this one team, some things just don't need to be ice cream.
Jenny of @ga.eats on Instagram tried the fishy flavour and actually found it quite "pleasant". She described it as "a creamy salmon dip but frozen, flaky and slightly sweet".
Commenters on her post are pretty split. Some see the salmon as a sin against dessert culture, while others gladly welcome the fish to the freezer.
"Yuck!" one person wrote. "Imagine the smell."
"Omg. No way. Stop," another said (hard to tell if they're for or against).
"Wow, such interesting flavours!" a third added.
"I'm curious about the flavour but at the same time IDK if I would like it," read the most balanced take. "But I'd like to give it a try if I can".
Salmon is not the only unique flavour on offer at Fugitoto. They've also got milk tea, matcha, and black sesame to name a few. Side note: Their doorstops are shaped like melted ice cream cones which is a decor slay.
If this is all too much for your more reserved palate, two classic Kiwi ice cream flavours returned last week. Tip Top's Goody Goody Gum Drops and Cookies and Cream tubs are back in Kiwi supermarket freezers after they were discontinued in October last year.
They will be more expensive and in smaller tubs this time around, but hey, if you're not keen on fish ice cream, they'll do.
