Watch: MC/DC's first gig! Edge Breakfast belt out ‘Teenage Dirtbag’

Clint, Meg & Dan from The Edge Breakfast show had their first-ever live performance as their official band, MC/DC, on Saturday night. Watch the full performance live below now.

What started as a wild idea 39 days ago has turned into something almost resembling a real band. With zero musical experience and not a single instrument between them, Clint, Meg & Dan decided they were going to become musicians, and not just any musicians, but ones worthy of opening for Mitch James’ final show in Christchurch.

Armed with instruments from MusicWorks and dressed in some iconic rockstar costumes, the trio committed to daily practice. Meg took her place on the drums while Clint and Dan tackled the guitar (with varying levels of success). They even auditioned in front of Mitch James himself… but were promptly told no.

But instead of packing it in, they doubled down. Practice intensified. Producer Nepia joined in on bass, Webgirl Bella jumped on piano, and the group officially named themselves MC/DC, standing for Meg, Clint, Dan, Clint (yes, Clint got a double shoutout). And slowly but surely, the band actually started sounding… kind of legit?

They put the call out to Edge listeners for their first real gig, be it a wedding, a birthday, even a BBQ, and one legend answered. Liv offered up her 40th birthday at the Devonport RSA in Auckland, and the band was in.

Will it be music to your ears or an absolute trainwreck? Either way, you won’t want to miss it.
