Le Snack is back: NZ’s iconic lunchbox snack officially returns for good

A round, scalloped cracker with a light-colored creamy spread floats in front of a blurred grocery store aisle filled with packaged snacks.

It’s not often we get to celebrate one of our favourite Kiwi snacks coming out of retirement, but we’ve been heard and are welcoming back a lunchbox favourite with open arms.

The Le Snak is officially hitting shelves once again, meaning we can all enjoy a few crackers and cheese spread when the 3pm slump hits at work.

Honestly, I was starting to feel bad for the new generation of Kiwi kids who never got to experience the absolute rush of swapping Roll-Ups and Le Snaks around the circle at morning team, or using your fingers to scoop up every last bit of the creamy cheese.

Those really were simpler times.

But Uncle Tobys heard our cries after the Bluebird product was discontinued back in 2022.

Other people were just as crushed and confused as we were. Redditors were calling for riots, feeling sorry for the next generation, and some described their disappointment as “le shoque and la oûtrãge”...

Now, Uncle Tobys says it is “thrilled to see Le Snak back on shelves for fans old and new”.

The company did a trial run bringing the product back for one month last year.

“War is over,” one Kiwi TikToker wrote at the time, holding up a pack in front of a fully stocked supermarket shelf.

People were absolutely buzzing over the find, with one comment reading: “OMG WHERE DID YOU FIND IT? THAT'S MY CHILDHOOD SNACK! I CRY BECAUSE IT WENT OFF SHELVES.”

Nestlé Head of Marketing Snacks, Jessica Barnes, says: “Le Snak has always held a special place in the hearts of Kiwis, and the strong response to last year’s limited one-month release confirmed just how much affection there still is for this iconic snack.”

At least now we know it’s here to stay, so I don’t have to panic buy a gazillion packs all at once.

But I will absolutely be heading to the supermarket ASAP.
